Indigenous health programs

Victorian aboriginal womenWe work closely with Aboriginal organisations, health workers, government and businesses to target cancer prevention messages to Victorian Aboriginal communities.

Activities include:

  • Education programs to reduce the risk of cancer
  • Research to reduce the burden of cancer on future generations
  • Information and support for cancer patients, their families, carers, and health professionals
  • Creating culturally appropriate resources through community consultation and using local artists.

Arts awards

Our annual Arts Awards include an Indigenous Visual Art category that's now in its 3rd year. It gives Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders a chance to share their cancer stories through art. Works can include painting, photographs, craft or sculpture, and can represent someone's own experience with cancer or how a person felt watching a loved one with cancer. Entries have closed for 2008 but see our 2008 Arts Awards page for details of exhibitions and previous winners.
